In a recent event in the Cybersecurity world, a software update by cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike caused significant IT disruptions globally. With recovery potentially taking days, Hank Fordham, a cybersecurity expert at X10 Technologies, explained that the issue primarily affected Microsoft machines and caused widespread service interruptions in sectors such as health and air travel. On the other hand, Mac and Linux users were not affected.
Fordham emphasized that the cause of the outage was primarily due to Crowdstrikes’ single content update, which happens to not work well with microsoft He also expressed fear about fakers buying deceptive domains to deceive users because of this move made by cybercriminals.
Although there is a fix from CrowdStrike, it could take quite some time before full recovery is made and thus more caution should be taken to prevent further exploitation.
